Last night I got together with some friends to watch Food, Inc.Honestly, how many of us can say that we didn't know at least some of the things that were in the movie? But how many of us just turned a blind eye to it and pretended like it doesn't happen? I know I did.
We have been tossing around the idea of buying 1/4 or 1/2 a cow for a while now, but after last night we (I) decided that we are going to go ahead and do it. I have emailed a place that a friend has bought from before. If I don't hear from them next week, I will head out there to see what is going on.
I have been wanting to join a CSA for a while now, but kept putting it off because any CSA is at least an hour drive. Last fall, I decided that we were going to go ahead and join and use the pick up as an excuse to head to the food co-op that we shop at whenever possible and do some big city thrifting. Of course, we aren't going to be here this summer, so joining was out of the question. I set out today to find a CSA that offers fall/winter shares, and a friend pointed me in the direction of one that looks great! She emailed them today and is going to keep me updated on what they say.
I borrowed the movie and the whole family is going to watch it tomorrow. Last night I was telling the family about the factory farming parts and Alex said "And that is why I don't want to watch the movie. I am all for eating better food but I don't want to watch the movie." Just imagine how he will feel after he sees it!

I watched that movie a while ago and it was seriously depressing. We luckily already have 1/4 of a cow in our freezer. You might also like to watch "The Future of Food." It's another horrifying movie about corporate food production.
